Lambing & Calving Season Prep Starts Here!
Why should farmers vaccinate sheep with Bravoxin when Heptavac P is not available?

When Heptavac is not available, Bravoxin can be a suitable alternative for vaccinating sheep because it provides protection against clostridial diseases, which are a major cause of sudden death in sheep.
Here are some key reasons why farmers should consider Bravoxin:
1. Clostridial Disease Coverage
Bravoxin 10 protects against 10 clostridial bacteria, including:
Tetanus
Pulpy kidney
Blackleg
Black disease
Malignant oedema
These are some of the same pathogens covered by Heptavac, making it a good stopgap option to maintain flock protection.
2. Preventing Sudden Death
Clostridial diseases often strike suddenly and are almost always fatal. Vaccination is the only reliable way to prevent losses, especially around stressful periods like lambing, weaning, and changes in diet.
3. Herd Immunity
Even if Bravoxin doesn’t cover Pasteurella (as Heptavac P Plus does), maintaining immunity to clostridial diseases helps reduce overall disease burden and protects the wider flock.
4. Safe and Proven
Bravoxin is a well-established vaccine with a good safety profile. It’s widely used when other vaccines are out of stock or for routine clostridial protection.
Important Note:
Bravoxin does not protect against Pasteurella (Mannheimia haemolytica) infections, which are a major cause of pneumonia in lambs. If Heptavac is unavailable long term, farmers should talk to their vet about additional pneumonia protection.
